Andrew Ferguson – 1855

Andrew Ferguson

Andrew Ferguson, Dean’s 3rd great-grandfather, traveled with a second wife and children to the Salt Lake valley in the Moses Thurston company, arriving in September 1855.  His first wife died in Scotland and he remarried there before emigrating to America.

-Andrew was born on 6 Sep 1818 at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland to William Ferguson and Barbara Orthur Lindsay.  Here is his autobiography.

-Catherine Douglas was born on 6 Oct 1819 at Barany, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Robert Douglas and Mary Bruce.  Very little is know about her parents.

-Andrew & Catherine were reportedly married on 26 Jun 1842 at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

AgnesRFerguson1-First & second children, twins Barbara Orthur and Agnes Reed (Dean’s 2nd great-grandmother at left) were born on 21 Sep 1843 at Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Agnes later married Fredrick Lewis, son of John Amos Lewis.  HERE is the page for John Amos Lewis.

-Andrew & Catherine were both baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in September 1844, according to church ordinance records.

-Third child, Mary Bruce, was born on 2 Jun 1845 at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  She died there the following year.

-Fourth child, Elizabeth Lock, was born on 19 Nov 1846 at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

-Fifth child, Eli Brazee Kelsey, was born on 28 Dec 1848 at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Mother, Catherine, died a few days later on 4 Jan 1849 and was buried at Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

-Andrew remarried to Elizabeth Watson on 15 Jul 1850 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.  She was born in Scotland on 15 Jul 1815 to William Watson and Ann Wallace.

-Andrew & Elizabeth and their son as well as his 4 previous children sailed to America on the “Siddons” arriving at Philadelphia on 20 Apr 1855.  A young man of unknown relation (Duncan Ferguson) also traveled with them on the ship and in the company that brought them to Utah.  Two of Andrew’s sisters (Elizabeth & Mary) eventually emigrated to Utah as well.

-Listed in the 1860 US Fed Census were Andrew & Elizabeth with a total of 7 children living in Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah.

-Listed in the 1870 US Fed Census were Andrew & Elizabeth with their 3 youngest children living in Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah.

-Elizabeth died on 24 Dec 1873 and was buried at Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah.

-Andrew was not found in the 1880 US Fed  Census.

-Andrew died on 19 Feb 1888 and was buried at Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah.

    HI, my name is Aaron. Andrew Ferguson was my great great great uncle. and as well as looking at my family tree I have also been looking for living relatives to share information with and to just make a connection with. I come from the line of the Ferguson family that did not emigrate to Utah. our family still live in Rutherglen Scotland. i would love to exchange e mails with you about our family
